Good behavior through leadership, communication and clear expectations

We love our dogs, but undesirable habits and behaviors often develop and detract from the quality of life we envisioned when we brought our friend into our home. I can show you how to take control of your dog, to provide direction in a way that our dogs can understand, calmly and clearly.  To see the subtle signs that lead to unwanted behavior and correct them before things get out of control.  To see to your dog's needs, which are not the same as a person's needs and to show them how to behave in our society, which is foreign to them.

To make them your best friend, that can go anywhere with you, anytime, because they are such a joy to be with.

We have to remind ourselves that there is more to having dogs than just letting them exist. We take them from their families at a young age, and so deny them the rules and structure that other dogs would have taught and demanded from them. It is thus doubly our responsibility to teach them the rules and structure of our society, foreign to a dog, the one we now expect them to live in. Many people think they are "letting dogs be dogs" when they ask nothing from their pets, but these are intelligent beings and deserve to understand clearly the socially acceptable behavior that we expect from them. They thrive on intellectual stimulation, new experiences and challenges. Life stresses dogs too, and they deserve a way to release stress and energy.  It is up to us to see to our dog's needs, and guide them through life in such a way that enables them to be welcome among us and a joy to be with.
